The KP News May edition article “New and Familiar Candidates Join Contest for 26th LD Election” omitted Jim Henderson’s (R-Gig Harbor) candidacy for Position 1. He entered the race on March 12 and will face Adison Richards (D-Gig Harbor) and former Rep. Jesse Young (R-Gig Harbor), who gave up that seat in 2023 to unsuccessfully challenge Sen. Emily Randall (D-Bremerton). Incumbent Rep. Spencer Hutchins (R-Gig Harbor) won Young’s House seat in the 2022 election but declined to run for re-election this year.
As of the May 10 filing deadline, incumbent Rep. Michelle Caldier (R-Gig Harbor) will be facing four opponents for Position 2: Rachel Harter (R-Gig Harbor), Lori McPherson (D-Bremerton), Tiffiny Mitchell (D-Port Orchard), and Josh Smith (I-Gig Harbor).
In addition, the offices of Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer, Executive, and Sheriff will be on the ballot contested by 11 candidates, all newcomers to those positions.
