Nan Feagin was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1938, and died in Tacoma, Nov. 13. She was 86 years old.
She grew up in Alabama where she attended Auburn University and met her future husband Jefferson Ball Feagin. They made their way to the Pacific Northwest in the early 1960s. After a few moves, they settled on Fox Island, where Jeff designed and helped build what became their home for over 50 years.
Nan had a tremendous garden and was known for her tomato plants, which she sold each spring. Together Nan and Jeff made their mark by becoming some of the most invested volunteers and promotors of all things Fox Island. Following Jeff’s death, she decided to move to Home where her garden was, as anyone might imagine, spectacular.
An accomplished artist who worked in pastels and pencils, Nan’s work was well known throughout the greater Peninsula. She was also an avid volunteer for The Mustard Seed Project, the Great Peninsula Conservancy, the Fox Island Plant Sale, the Fox Island Community Recreational Association (now known as FICRA), Remann Hall of Tacoma, and others. Her hard work and gift for organizing will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff, and son Christopher Young Feagin.
Nan is survived by her daughters Sarah Anderson (Bryant) and Maggie Schauble (John); grandsons Dylan Anderson, Jared Schauble and James Schauble.
Plant a tree in her honor, anywhere, anytime.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at Lakebay Community Church.
