David Shawn Hennessy, 57, of Louisville, Kentucky, and a vibrant soul in Lakebay, passed away July 30, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer.

A true adventurer at heart, Dave and his wife Mo shared a passion for traveling the world. From the lush landscapes of New Zealand to the vibrant cities of Australia, their globe-trotting culminated in a milestone journey to Antarctica, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Their shared wanderlust bound them closer with each new horizon.

The Lakebay community will dearly miss Dave at the Annual Kentucky Derby celebration, a cherished Hennessy tradition that resonated with his Kentucky roots. His absence will create a void at this beloved gathering that commemorated his love for his home state. A former Marine, a fervent Green Bay Packers fan, and University of Kentucky basketball supporter, Dave’s zest for life colored every interaction.

A storyteller extraordinaire, his tales were woven with humor and heart, captivating all who listened. Dave’s presence was as vast as his heart, his kindness and generosity touching all who crossed his path. Survived by his loving wife, Maureen (Mo), his daughter Shawna, and his granddaughters in South Carolina, Dave’s family extended beyond blood to include his devoted “Washington Family” — brother-in-law Andrew Borba and wife Janet; sister-in-law Eileen Borne and husband Paul; and his beloved brother-in-law Dan Borba, who preceded Dave in death. Together, they shared laughter and love, creating a tapestry of warm memories.

Dave is also survived by his father, Thomas Hennessy, Sr.; siblings Tom, Dan, Gloria, Casey, and Priscylla; along with a host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. Preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Louise, and his brothers Timothy Shawn and Robert Michael, Dave’s legacy of love and laughter will echo through the lives he touched. Dave never met a stranger; new people were “friends he hadn’t met yet.”

A celebration of life will be held at the Key Peninsula Civic Center in Vaughn, Nov. 10 from 3 to 5 p.m., providing a space for all who loved Dave to come together, share stories, and honor his remarkable journey. He will be laid to rest at Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor, surrounded by the love that he so generously gave in his time on Earth. Dave’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, his legacy of kindness and boundless hospitality continuing to inspire all who remember him.
