The mission of Communities in Schools of Peninsula is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Join us to learn about how this organization is breaking down barriers on the Key Peninsula so all students can thrive.


Presenter: Laurel Shultz serves as the Program Director for Communities In Schools of Peninsula (CISP) where she oversees programs at eight schools and leads a team of dedicated professionals who provide a complex array of services to deserving kids. She is a former Peninsula School District teacher and her prior work with dropout prevention programs for the district led her to pursue early intervention practices. At Henderson Bay High School she encouraged youth to re-engage with school after they had dropped out of school. The drop-out prevention programs that CISP coordinates start in Kindergarten with an emphasis on building student confidence and the skills necessary to succeed in school. Laurel has lived in Gig Harbor for over 30 years and continues to enjoy the great quality of life the Harbor and surrounding areas provides.
