Clouds moved in and provided an overcast day as the winds picked up, giving each flag a chance to unfurl at Vaughn Bay Cemetery May 29.
There were 290 casket flags flying, spaced perfectly so each one could be seen, and numbered so that every year the same flag that represents that veteran is flown in the same spot. The Key Peninsula Veterans Institute in cooperation with the cemetery hosts the Aisle of Honor each Memorial Day. It is one of only a few in the country.
More than 100 people gathered at the cemetery to honor veterans of all wars and hear the six speakers call the roll.
In the center of the cemetery the flags of all the military branches were flown.
The Navy Band provided music, as did the bagpipers.
