Jane Rumsey of Lakebay died Aug. 5. She was 81 years old.
Jane was born in 1943 to Wilmer and Jack Logan of San Francisco. She grew up an only child and enjoyed music, books and friends. She would share stories of running home from school to watch American Bandstand to see Elvis perform. She camped and enjoyed water skiing with her family at Buck’s Lake in Plumas County, California. Her grandfather on her mother’s side ran a stagecoach stop in the area rumored to have housed Black Bart back in the day.
Family history and stories mattered, and she was always willing to talk to reinforce the importance of remembrance.
It was at a neighborhood house fire when she was 18 when she met Win Rumsey whom she would later marry. Both Jane and Win attended UC Berkeley together and continued to live in San Francisco until Win enlisted in the U.S. Army and they moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was here their first child, Anne, was born. Years later they would settle in San Anselmo, in Marin County, and it was here that Jane’s second child, a son named Scott was born.
Later the family moved to Sonoma County and lived there until 2007, when they decided to move to the PNW, specifically Lakebay, to be near Anne and their two grandchildren, Matt and Grace. Scott and his family wound up in Portland, Oregon, which made getting together with the family an easy task. While in Lakebay Jane supported Win and his dental practice for many years as bookkeeper until they were both able to retire.
Jane will be remembered by her family and those who knew her as a kind, warm, generous person. She was always the voice of reason and had the impossible task of trying to rein in the family and limit the shenanigans. She was an incredible mother and loved her kids and grandchildren hard and unconditionally. Family was always first and she truly lived the saying “One for all and all for one.” Her absence leaves a huge hole in her family. We are grateful she was able to celebrate her 81st birthday in November and 60 years of marriage June 27.
She had one of the most thoughtful and biggest hearts and leaves behind her husband Win; daughter Anne Nesbit and her two children, Matt and Grace Nesbit; as well as her son Scott Rumsey, daughter-in-law Deborah, and their two children, Nate and Katie Rumsey.
Her family will lead by example by being kind to others, sharing their hearts, and remembering the warmth, guidance and love that Mema provided to everyone she met. Mom, your musketeers will never forget you: “All for one and one for all.” Our swords are raised for you, forevermore.
