Key Peninsula Senior Society celebrates 35th anniversary

Local seniors get together every Thursday for games, food and good company.

“This is the best kept secret on the Key Peninsula,” says Sondra Baillargeon, the newest member. “If it weren’t for my neighbor, I wouldn’t know about it. I felt like I belonged here the first week,” she said.

“We’ll play anything anyone wants to play,” added Bill Barber. “The club is run by the members and we all have input. Bingo is $1 a card, and the oney goes to winners.”

According to the members, they play dominoes, Mexican Train, and whatever card games anyone wants to play. There are special parties every month, birthday celebrations, food for potluck every meeting, cards and coffee, friends and fun –– with plenty to eat.

“We are a fun group and have lots of laughs,” said Judy Pinter. “We enjoy each other’s company.”

Erma Dunn has been a member for about 25 years. The former president and treasurer have the longest active membership.

Current officers: Charlene Haglund, president; John Ball, vice president; Jack Rickansrud second vice president; Flo Williams, treasurer; Lou Mauk, secretary; Sharon Rickansrud, corresponding secretary; Erma Dunn and Bob Mauk, members at large.

The group goes on trips occasionally. Recent outings include the LeMay Car Museum and the Museum of Glass in Tacoma.

Entertainment is provided sometimes and they welcome local musicians who except voluntary donations.

The nonprofit organization charges no dues. Anyone over the age of 55 is welcome.
