The Old Timers Day Festival and Logging Show will celebrate a milestone Aug. 20-21. Key Peninsula Community Services has hosted this event for the past 25 years as a fundraiser for its programs, including the Food Bank.
"Yes, this is a special year. It is the 25th anniversary of Old Timers Day. Dale Boquist is retiring...so he thinks, " said Penny Gazabat, executive director of KPCS.
The event will kick off with a dance Aug. 20 (check location), with music by the Zero Down Blues Band from Tacoma. Admission to the dance is $5 and everyone is welcome.
There will be a beer garden at the dance for those over 21. On Aug. 21, admission is free. Events begin at 10 a.m., and entertainment includes local loggers demonstrating logging techniques. They will assist the audience to try their hand at logging skills and use a 2-person saw.
A very busy Vicky Lilyeblade is in charge of this year's festival. She and her volunteers have planned a Country Fair, Kids Zone with carnival-type games and a bounce house.
Paintball Sports will have a paintball station. Rhythm and Shoes cloggers, the Down Home Band, and Key Singers will harmonize with an active steam donkey. Antique logging machinery and specialty saws are always fan favorites.
Prizes for the live and silent auctions will be awarded around 4 p.m. at the close of the festival. Those prizes include dump truck loads of topsoil, rock, firewood, and many others. Raffle tickets will be sold for cash prizes ($100, $250 and $500).
Vendors for food and craft booths ($20 fee) may download an application from ww.keypeninsulacommunityservices.org or call 884-4440 for information.
