Propane Fire in Purdy Injures Two

Posted

Two employees at the CHS/Cenex farm and home store on 66th Avenue NW in Purdy were injured when a 120-gallon propane tank they were filling caught fire June 11 around 2 p.m., according to Key Peninsula Fire District 16.

The two men, ages 66 and 57, were badly burned but able to secure a 3,200-gallon propane tank, preventing what could have been a catastrophic explosion, according to fire officials, and evacuate other employees. Both men were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from nearby Peninsula High School.

The source of the propane leak that ignited was still under investigation at press time.

GoFundMe accounts have been established for both men at www.gofundme.com/f/help-a-devoted-grandfather-recover and www.gofundme.com/f/help-scot-wares-family.
