Robert Porter Lind passed away peacefully at home Aug. 13, 2024, of cancer. He was born in Tacoma Mar. 21, 1957, to Bob and Nancy Lind.
Rob and his older brothers, Aaron and Dave, grew up on 80 beautiful acres in Home. His parents, especially his mother, adored sailing. Rob loved being on the water, had sailboats most of his life, and captained several on vacations throughout the world.
He graduated from Peninsula High School in 1975 but missed his high school commencement because he was already in boot camp for the U.S. Coast Guard on the East Coast. He traveled around the world, including to Antarctica, and came home with the travel bug after serving four years.
Throughout his life, if Rob was going to make something, he did it to perfection. He went to trade school to learn model making and landed a job with the Boeing Co. where he worked in the model shop and wind tunnel for over 32 years before retiring at the ripe old age of 58.
Like his father before him, Rob had music in his blood and took up the trumpet. His musical talents drew him into many different community groups. He played African drums with other drummers at elementary schools to give kids the experience and joy of live music. He had meet-up groups with other musicians, returned to the trumpet, and picked up the trombone. For over 10 years he sang, performed and volunteered with the Seattle Community Choir.
Rob also enjoyed dancing. He took many lessons in all types of dances: swing, salsa, zydeco, waltzes, on and on. This is where he met his future wife, Judy Allvin. Though shy, he pushed through to perform dance routines because he knew how much she loved them.
He left the Earth far too soon, but Rob’s presence left it a much kinder, happier and more peaceful place.
Rob is survived by his wife Judy, his two brothers Aaron and Dave, his longtime sister-in-law Pam Lind, and myriad other in-laws and cousins. You are forever loved, our dearest Rob.
To celebrate Rob’s life, donations may be made to the Great Peninsula Conservancy, 6536 Kitsap Way, Bremerton WA 98312.
