Two Key Peninsula residents died in separate accidents in July.

Pedestrian Colby Jake Pederson, 32, was hit and killed by a car July 28 on Wright Bliss Road NW just north of 109th St. Ct. NW at approximately 11 p.m. as he was walking to his nearby home.

The 63-year-old male driver said Pederson jumped in front of his car and that he couldn’t stop in time, struck Pederson, and drove off the road. He sustained minor injuries and there was no indication of impairment, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Joelle Alain Blos, 52, died July 30 while swimming in Carney Lake off Wright Bliss Road north of SR-302 at approximately 4:30 p.m. She often swam there in the afternoon or evening, according to Information Officer Anne Nesbit of the KP Fire Department.

Blos was swimming with her 5-year-old grandson, who was on an inflatable raft. He started calling for help when she went underwater and didn’t resurface. KPFD and Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies searched until late into the night. Her body was recovered the following day.
