Donald ‘Don’ Wilson Holman

Posted

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Donald “Don” Wilson Holman passed peacefully Aug. 24. He was 88 years old. Don was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Olympia, into a lively and close-knit family of 15 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bernice, and siblings Mary, Marlene, Judy, Dorthy, Chuck, Al, Richard, Bill, and Tommy. He is survived by his sisters Minnie and Sharon, his brother Ron, and a large extended family who will forever remember his warmth and laughter.

At just 17, Don earned his GED and proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy, beginning a life defined by service, responsibility, and courage. After completing his military service, he began working at Boeing, where he earned 71 cents an hour — a humble start that reflected his determination to build a better life. He met the love of his life during this time, Margerite “Peggy” Sloan. The couple married March 22, 1957, beginning a 62-year journey together filled with devotion, partnership, and laughter.

Together they raised three beloved children: Donnie (Tammy), Billy (Shirley), and Carolyne (José), and watched their family grow to include eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one soon-to-arrive great-great-grandchild.

After Boeing, Don worked for ALD Incorporated as an equipment installation and repair specialist, traveling throughout the western U.S., including Alaska. Later, he owned and operated several dry-cleaning shops and the Aberdeen Sunshine Center, making Ocean Shores the heart of family gatherings. Known for his enormous pots of clam chowder, Don often fed dozens of friends and loved ones.

In later years, Don and Peggy settled in at the Key Peninsula Sportsmen’s Club, where they formed deep friendships and became pillars of the community. Generosity was at Don’s core; he opened his home and even his hotel to those in need.

A man of faith, laughter, and love, Don’s life was an inspiration. He is now reunited with Peggy, surrounded by family in heaven, and he will be forever missed.
