This letter was penned April 9, following Easter and the collapse of the so-called war ceasefire less than 24 hours after its supposed implementation. I have no idea what would have followed in the three weeks before publication of the KP News May 2026 edition.
When will we learn that the problems that plague civilization are too complex to be solved by bombs? Mr. Trump’s threat against Iran, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” is the definition of genocide.
Just making that threat was a war crime under the 1949 Geneva Conventions, Article 51(2), the Prohibition of Terror, to which the U.S. is a signatory.
It also demonstrates Trump’s absence of human decency or sense of ethical or moral values, and by extension, our nation if his threat were ever carried out. His vulgar rant on Easter Sunday put an ignominious end to his masquerade as a follower of Jesus Christ, whose teachings of compassion, love, and charity are in total opposition to our president’s war-hungry and greedy nature.
Trump and the Pentagon have even attacked the first American-born Pope, Leo XIV, after he spoke out against the hateful policies that have already caused so much harm. Surely, the Pope is not our enemy.
Have the costs of groceries or gasoline gone down since Trump took office? Have his tariffs reduced the price of anything? Was dismantling USAID and stranding emergency food and medicine in warehouses instead of delivering it to save the lives of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, a wise policy decision? Do you believe any of the shifting pronouncements you hear from Trump or his administration, when he’s not on his weekly golf excursions, to the tune of $110.6 million just since he returned to office?
It is time for the 25th Amendment or impeachment before more lives are lost. Whatever your politics, consider the future of your children and grandchildren and the ability of our fragile planet to sustain humanity — another existential issue entirely. Enough is enough. It is time to put an end to this madness.
