Thirty years ago, I wandered into my first page design class during an intensive summer journalism program, and somehow wound up in the front row, where no other high school kid wanted to sit. An hour into the class, I finally worked up the nerve to raise my hand and ask the instructor, “How do I turn on my computer?”
Thus began my journalism career.
By the time my editor sent me to cover my first murder trial at 19, I was in love with newspaper.
As a reporter at The News Tribune, it was an honor that people trusted me to share their lives with readers. When I was the editor of The Puyallup Herald, it was my responsibility to care for the community with fair, complete coverage. Now, as the designer of your newspaper, it’s a joy to invite you into our pages.
Over 30 years, I’ve won several dozen awards for design, writing, photography and general journalism. I’m so proud of these awards. It’s your stories that have allowed me to write great articles or design beautiful pages. Thank you.
My time with the Key Peninsula News is a great marriage of my two loves — newspaper and family. I’ve been married for 18 years and we have a 10-year-old daughter, four cats and two dogs.
In my free time, I play board games with my family, bake bread and sew dresses for my daughter’s. Life is never quiet.
