In my opinion, the Pierce County Library System changes do not represent evolution; in fact, they are the opposite. The result, even in the short term, has been to devalue and do away with the things that have been the most important to us in the library system, speaking personally of my home Key Center, but I’m sure it resonates elsewhere.
Reorganizing according to “regions” and erasing the consistency and familiarity of our local librarians makes no sense to me. I have questions.
Even though the community input didn’t seem to have any effect on the decided changes, what are you seeing regarding community response thus far? Have there been many resignations, and if so, what is the cost of reorienting replacements? Or is the plan to let those positions go unfilled? What fiscal sense does it make to ignore employee and patron dissatisfaction? What forum do we have to express our dissatisfaction with the results of these changes, and how might it matter?
Please do not continue to be blind to the concerns and will of patrons. They’re more important than misguided fiscal concerns.
