State Rep. Michelle Caldier (R) of the 26th legislative district conceded the state senate race to incumbent Sen. Deb Krishnadasan (D) Nov. 6. The final tallies Nov. 25 put Krishnadasan ahead by 3,064 votes, or 5%.
Caldier will continue to serve in the state House of Representatives. After a record $4 million battle of mostly out-of-state money, both delegates will have to seek reelection to retain their respective seats in November 2026.
Key Peninsula fire commissioner candidate Colleen Mullen won the seat being vacated by Cambria Queen, beating Gretchen Schneider by 118 votes, or almost 2% of the voting KP electorate.
There was no change on the Key Pen Parks board of commissioners: Incumbents Linda Parry and Mark Michel both kept their seats by large margins.
Peninsula School District board candidate Matt Bruhn beat Emily DuCharme by 190 votes, or just less than 1%, for an open seat. Incumbent David Olson, after serving 12 years on the board, retained his seat by a margin of over 10%.
A total of 200,434 ballots were accepted by Pierce County as of Nov. 25. There are 14,353 active voters on the Key Peninsula (though more are registered), according to the Pierce County Auditor’s Office. Approximately 45% of them submitted accepted ballots, compared to 34% in the rest of Pierce County and 39% statewide. More ballots are received than accepted because of various voter errors, according to the auditor’s office.
Including those ballots and write-ins, voter turnout for the KP was 51% for KPFD 16 and KP Parks, with 56% for the 26th legislative district and Peninsula School District.
