I nearly cried reading the headline of January’s paper,“New Planned Daycare Facility Could Help Take Heat Off KP Fire District.”
When my husband and I moved to the KP to start a farm, we knew that living rurally would come with tradeoffs and access to childcare was one of those.
We are both small business owners and while we’ve been able to juggle caring for our 1-year-old between the two of us, it has not always been easy. We have often wished that even one day a week of childcare was a realistic possibility. That alone would mean less time working on the weekend for me and an extra four or five days of income a month for my husband.
You can imagine how thrilled I was to read that someone was working to bring a daycare center to our community. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that Ms. Johnstone can realize her plans and we will be one of the families clamoring to be on her list whenever she is ready to open. If there is any way that the community can support this endeavor, please let us know!
