I was just reading your editorial and was a little confused and frustrated by your last couple paragraphs (“Freedom of Speech for Thee, and for Me,” May 2025).
You said that “One man who drove his work truck made three passes each time revving his engine.” And then in the next paragraph you said, “People were respectful” and then in the final paragraph you said, “But it is not signs and slogans that move hearts and minds.”
I don’t think someone revving their engine is respectful. In my opinion, at this point it will take much more than “continuing to talk and listen” to work a miracle here.
We need to get out and be seen and heard now. Signs and slogans are forms of free speech and communicate thoughts and show our solidarity in this horrific urgent matter currently threatening our country and democracy.
