Cynthia Brown Syler, 91, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior July 26. She was born March 8, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Cynthia lived a life marked by hard work, determination, and devotion to her family. Throughout her distinguished career, she served as a realty specialist in several federal agencies, including the General Services Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration, as well as the Washington state government during the administration of Gov. Dixie Lee Ray.
She often took great pride in saying, “I started as a GS-2 clerk and finished my federal career at the GM-14 level — without a college degree,” a testament to her perseverance, talent, and dedication.
In 1962, Cynthia and her husband, Paul Weslie Brown, moved from Columbus, Ohio, to Kent, Washington, with their two sons, Dale and Michael.
They later made their home in Lakebay, where they enjoyed many happy years together. Following Paul’s passing in 2003, Cynthia married Donald Syler, a longtime family friend whose friendship with Paul began during their days at Ohio State University. After Donald’s passing in 2020, Cynthia lived with her son Dale in Ritzville, Washington, and later near her son Michael in Gig Harbor.
Above all else, Cynthia will be remembered for her contagious optimism, loving heart, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Dale Andrew Brown (Rena) and Michael Alan Brown (Jeanna); grandchildren Darcy Jo Brown, Micah Kim-Jin Brown (Sierra), and Lindy Mee-Ree Swanger (Zach); and great-grandchildren Everleigh Rae Swanger and Nicholai Owen Brown.
Memorial services celebrating Cynthia’s life will be held in Lakebay and Ritzville. Dates and times to be determined.
