Marjorie Mae Nygard

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marjorie Mae Nygard (Nance) August 22.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, only 20 days before joining him in heaven. They were married Nov. 10, 1951, and spent 73 years together. After sharing a long and loving marriage, they are together again — this time for eternity.

Marjorie was born May 20, 1931, in Wenatchee and moved to Tacoma in 1942. She graduated from Stadium High School in 1949, where she first met her future husband. Marjorie and Harry owned a successful business for 45 years and retired in 1996 to spend their remaining years enjoying their Longbranch waterfront home with a beautiful view of Mount Rainier. Marjorie considered Rainier to be her mountain.

Marjorie was an active member of the Lakebay Community Church and enjoyed bowling, reading and gardening.

As a young woman who survived polio, she considered learning to water ski at their summer lake cabin to be one of her greatest accomplishments.

She was also preceded in death by her brother Richard and two sisters, Rosella and Carol.

Marjorie is survived by daughters, Debra Smith (Rick) and Cindy Taylor (Tim), as well as grandchildren Rick Smith, Jr., Shannon Smith Wallace, Jacob Taylor and Diana Taylor. She will also be missed by her nine great-grandchildren.

Mom, goodbyes are not forever, and goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean we will miss you until we meet again.
