It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of a former Longbranch resident and our beloved mother, Marlies Van Cise.
Marlies died April 7 after an arduous and unwinnable battle against Alzheimer’s disease. She maintained her sense of humor, her love for all animals, and her loving relationship with her children until her final breath.
While she was able, she supported her daughter’s commitment to fundraising in search of a cure for the disease with the National Alzheimer’s Association.
Although she moved away from the Key Peninsula after the death of her husband, Richard Van Cise, in 2019, the love she had for the Key and especially its residents in Longbranch sustained her at the onset of her illness. Marlies was an active community member at the Longbranch Improvement Club, her church, and a host of other clubs and committees that strengthened the bonds of the local community.
Marlies was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Van Cise. She leaves behind her daughter, Heike Celia Bride (husband Jim), and son Oliver Klomp, both of Washington state.
We invite you to honor Marlies’ legacy by celebrating her relief from this vicious disease. Her spirit, advocacy, and many contributions left a positive mark on the Key Peninsula, a place she called home.
